Our essential oil comes from the zest of the Melanesian Macroptere (shatkora). Macroptere is genetically related to kaffir lime.
Our oil is extracted from the mature fruit in December/January in Portugal. The essential oil is composed of limonene and caryophyllene, giving it a rich spicy note. This essential oil has similarities yet is more creamy and unexpected than the kaffir lime fruit essential oil.
Shatkora is an essential ingredient in the traditional cuisine of Bangladesh and the northeastern states of India, particularly in dishes from the Sylhet region. It is commonly used in meat and fish curries, adding a distinct citrusy flavor and fragrance to the dishes.
Fruit available December to January.
