The fingered citron is not a rare mutation of a citron but rather an ancient variety from a formerly isolated population that then spread to Yunnan and southwestern Tibet. Buddha hand citrons have neither pulp nor seed, they are reproduced  mainly by plant cuttings.

Our Buddha’s Hand citron essential oil is extracted from fruit cultivated in the gentle coastal climate of Portugal, where consistent temperatures and maritime air encourage a fuller aromatic spectrum. This ancient variety delivers an essential oil that is anything but ordinary.

We harvest and extract from green-yellow fruit to preserve the ethereal top note that defines this oil,  a radiant osmanthus-like floral character that floats above deeper citrus elements. Unlike typical citrus oils, this one is not bright or zesty, it is textured and perfumed.

The oil is powerful and persistent, with citronellal playing a central role. Highly prized yet notoriously variable, Buddha’s Hand essential oil depends entirely on terroir and cultivar, ours is a testament to location, care, and harvest timing.

FRUIT

Each Buddha Hand  is carefully cultivated and handpicked at the peak of ripeness to ensure optimal flavor and quality. Its elongated fingers, resembling a hand in a meditative gesture, make it a captivating centerpiece in any fruit bowl or kitchen display and a fragrance that fills the air when you bring a fresh Buddha Hand into your home.

Grate the zest to infuse desserts, sauces, and beverages with a burst of a round tangy flavor. Add a touch of elegance to your cocktails, create delightful marmalades, or incorporate it into marinades for a refreshing twist on your favorite dishes. Thinly sliced fingers, dipped in icing  sugar, then frozen  make a delicious crunchy addition to desserts.

Fruit available from October to January.
